I wonder if your miss it sometimes I hate the idea nevermind I remember you lovingly Do you remember me Days of uncertainty You can't stay to long Where you don't belong There's nothing unsaid There's nothing undone What will be the tune When it's my turn It's not the same without you here I think of you each time I go to the harbour It was rough we could not sail Frosty mornings and mist on the lower hills You wanted a garden full of trees Show him the places we've been If we could see forever If we could see around the corner Many of are old friends have gone Torn away and fallen to the ground Love makes a house a home I can't get along without you

Meet me in the coastal mountains If you get there before me make a fire and a shelter and a bed for our heads I will make it somehow someway And the quartermasters dream will come true someday The waves lash at the eagles nest and the storm birds drift and protest The waves lash at the eagles nest and the storm birds drift and protest I don't have much, I don't need much, I don't care I can help you, you can help me thats fair were have high hopes strong coats and long ropes yeah what more what more do we need from our fathers deeds The waves lash at the eagles nest and the storm birds drift and protest The waves lash at the eagles nest and the storm birds drift and protest So these our coastal mountains Pines all the way down to the sea like a picture or a painting in a long forgotten dream These are a coastal mountain scenes The waves lash at the eagles nest and the storm birds drift and protest The waves lash at the eagles nest and the storm birds drift and protest You never found me at the coastal mountains maybe i never told you where i would be.

Remember the good times You have got to I used to make up a story He was on a secret mission Like a film with Tom Cruise He shows up at his parents house After he'd gone But I knew it wasn't true I knew it wasn't true See the plane come in It's your brother Fighting was never in my nature But I kept on doing it to let out my anger I always had to push it to the limit I go out on the water We're stuck in this place People's lives they move on The phone call never came But there's a knock at the door If you felt a love like that Then you must believe that there's enough love for a lifetime I look out at the horizon That is what we're living on Full of life and direction after your gone It's hard to put your finger You get behind Your luck it starts turning like the tide You get against the wind I've got a cross made of shells with nothing to bury Always stay close and run to safety I feel closer today That's the way I want to stay Live the life he would have lived Hold on to happy photographs The smell of her perfume Light up the room

Late grey 02:41
Maybe because it was a late grey afternoon Maybe because I looked out at the stars last night and I felt the absence of a willing partner who knows the steps and bit by bit you let go of anything that you can predict Because you can't Kiss each other and dance close together Her words are spoken by an actor This is the place you were always meant to find on the edge of a cliff under the night sky They don't know how to spend the evening I can tell you enjoyed it as much as I did She's got a soul and she takes good care to hide it I won't tell anybody if you don't want me to

Flesh 04:14
All this flesh what have we done The world has crashed into the sun Just by chance we broke a branch Climbed out to far to take a glance Train wreck that is all Welcome back one and all Aching feet legs so tall Time to sleep, sleep it off How old are you its hard to tell Skin and bones on that shell It's all the same, it's all the same Drag the lake, drag the lake Safety net is a safety net Catch my breath, catch my breath It's not mine, it's not yours Tiny lives and metaphors All this flesh what have we done The world has crashed into the sun just by chance we broke a branch Climbed out to far to take a glance

Remains 05:11
It's so cold my very soul is freezing It's death to venture out in the evening You've been writing of your thoughts, your feelings The ones you love they move on The sorrow of them leaving Roof and walls provide protection Stay somewhere safer like a concrete basement If the signal uses a wavering tone It was not unexpected so don't try and run I'm looking out at the skyline A high definition view of a wind turbine It's making it all seem more real The farmers are lying face down in their fields The memories of my mother they are the sharpest We all need that security blanket When your miles under the surface Speak even if your voice shakes This unnatural silence Brings me comfort Hangs around my shoulders Creeps up and all over

about

Looks like harvest times here again, with a new 6 track EP, from Falmouth band Wives of Farmers. The four piece started in 2006, meeting for casual jams and no particular plan to expand from this. Gradually though, songs were fighting their way up for air, so they began playing them around West Cornwall’s live music venues.

Cuddle and Cold Compression was self-produced at The Hanger, the bands makeshift studio space in Halvasso near Penryn in 2018/19. All tracks were recorded with simple multi-tracking and only a dusting of post- production. WOF will happily concede to a lo-fi ethos, their abstract and searching themes are often set in simple frames. Subtle texturing of the electric guitars is done to great effect here though. Acoustic instruments make up most of the foreground as their train takes us out into Folk’s fringes for some existential sightseeing. The vocals never leap or dive, just serve to keep us intrigued as to what we’re being shown with these songs. A duet as well, with guest singer and remote, sometimes 5th member Helen Weeks.

Shadow and light play out evenly across the EPs themes, making for a compelling and at times pretty emotional passage. Hey, but aren’t those the trips we fondly keep hold of the ticket for and remember most clearly?

about

WIVES OF FARMERS

We are Wives of Farmers (WOF). A band of four or five; Matt Adkins,Jamie Boyd, Jeff Bradley, Kees Toft, and an important guest musician, Helen Weeks

WOF have existed for over ten years in multiple incarnations and with several name changes. Our only real desire right from often chaotic beginnings was to just play and play until something good surfaced – It’s still the only way we know.
